The Sonder Detail Scrapbooks can be purchased here. Below, you will find out how to install them and use them on a LayOut project.

Installation

After purchase, you should get an email with a download link to download the SonderDetailScrapbook.zip file. The files are intended to be installed as a LayOut scrapbook. Here’s how:

  1. Unzip SonderDetailScrapbook.zip to a location on your computer.
  2. Open LayOut.
  3. Go to Edit > Preferences.
  4. Click on Folders.
  5. Click on the Plus sign under Scrapbooks to select the folder where you unzipped the SonderDetailScrapbook.zip file. Click OK. Close the LayOut Preferences window.

The scrapbooks are now installed and are accessible in any LayOut document from the Scrapbooks panel.

Inserting a Detail

With the scrapbooks installed, you can drag and drop details into any LayOut document. Here’s how:

  1. Expand the Scrapbooks panel in the tray. (If you can’t find the Scrapbooks panel, go to Window > and make sure the Scrapbooks panel is checked.)
  2. Resize the scrapbooks panel so the scrapbook fills the white space.
  3. Choose a scrapbook from the dropdown menu. The Sonder Detail Scrapbooks are all prefixed with SD- for easy identification.
  4. Browse the pages of the scrapbook by clicking on the page navigation buttons next to the dropdown menu.
  5. Once you find the detail you’d like to insert into your document, activate the layer you’d like to place the detail on, tap the Spacebar to activate the Select tool, then click and drag one of the details onto the page.

Editing a detail

Once you’ve placed a detail in your document, you can edit the labels, the viewport, and even the SketchUp model itself. Each viewport has the SketchUp model embedded so you can customize it however you want.

When you insert a detail from the scrapbook, the viewport and all the labels are contained inside a group. If you’d like to ungroup the detail, you can right-click > Ungroup. Otherwise, just double-click on the group to open it for editing.

Labels

By default, the labels display the name of the object they are anchored to.

  • You can manually overwrite label text by double-clicking on the text and typing. Press ESC to commit the changes.
  • Move the label anchor point by double-clicking on the leader line, then dragging the anchor point to a new location.
  • When the anchor point is moved, you’ll need to reestablish the Auto-text if you want it to read the name of the object. Double-click on the label text, click on the drop-down arrow, select the entity and the text you want to display in the label. Click anywhere to commit the changes.

Viewports

The viewport will already be configured and assigned to an appropriate scene for the detail, but you can customize it however you want.

  • You can toggle the visibility of various objects in the viewport by selecting the viewport, then going to the SketchUp Model panel. (If you don’t see the SketchUp model panel, go to the Window menu and make sure the SketchUp Model panel is active.) In the Tags subpanel, toggle the visibility of various tags to explore different configurations.
  • To customize the model, right-click on the viewport and select Open with SketchUp. When you’re done editing the model, go to File > Save, and the model will update in LayOut automatically.
